The Lantern Road
You are a courier on a night coast, carrying letters that waited too long.
Apologies, thanks, and one or two things braver than either. Deliver one, and the coast answers - a porch lamp catches, a boat comes in off the dark water, a whole village remembers to string its lights.
In this chill game, there is no dying, only floating back. Step wrong and the water returns you, gently, right where you slipped. The road was never about failing, it's about learning how the coast works, and it keeps its secrets close:
- Tide bells trade the water's heights — drowned causeways walk at low tide; lily-lights ride it high.
- Cold lamps wake to a wisp of light, and you steer their beam from mirror to mirror, up crags, across pools, through walls with one slot left in them.
- A firefly follows you into the dark and shows you stones no one else can see. Settle it into a night-bloom, and the dark gives it back as road.
And every stretch of coast forks: the road of the living, or the road of memory. When you choose - a wind above, a ferry below - it is chosen, for that walk. The other road stays misted until you begin the road anew.
Follow it all the way down — quay and fens, orchard and high snow — to the point where every road was going, and a sky that is, for the first time in a long night, beginning to grow light.
Free to walk. Worth what it gave you. No locked doors, no dark patterns — just a lamp and a tin.
